ISRAEL: Repeated imprisonment for women COs Raz Bar-David Varon and Maya Yechieli Wind

Israeli women conscientious objectors Raz Bar-David Varon and Maya Yechieli Wind have been sent to prison again on 3 February, only a few days after having been released from their previous prison terms.

For Raz Bad-David Varon this is the fifth prison term, not counting seven days of confinement to base. Raz Bad-David Varon started her first detention on 3 November 2008.

For Maya Yechieli Wind this is the second prison term.

Both women reported to the Induction Base on 1 February, and were then given a conditional sentence of 10 days in prison for their refusal to enlist. When, on the next day, the two objectors persisted with the refusal, the conditional sentences were activated, and to this were added 15 days for Maya Yechieli Wind and 20 days for Raz Bar-David Varon. They were sent to prison on the next day, 3 February 2009.
