Four Israeli women conscientious objectors have been sentenced to a second prison term on Sunday, 12 October. Sahar Vardi (ISR14949) and Tamar Katz (ISR14952) have been sentenced to 21 days in prison and are due to be released on 30 October 2008. Omer Goldman (ISR14951) and Mia Tamarin (ISR14953) have both been sentenced to 14 days and are due to be released on 24 October.

Sahar Vardi first went to prison on 25 August 2008 (see co-alert, 26 August 2008), when she was sentenced to 7 days imprisonment for refusing to enlist.

Tamar Katz, Omer Goldman and Mia Tamarin all reported to the induction base on 22 September 2008. Omer Goldman was sentenced to 21 days in prison on the same day. Tamar Katz and Mia Tamarin were both given a conditional sentence of 7 days in prison on 22 September, and were kept at the induction base. On the next morning, they were sentenced to five days of confiment to base. On 28 September, both were then sentenced to 14 days in prison for refusing to enlist (see co-alert, 29 September 2008).

All four presently imprisoned conscientious objectors are being denied legal assistance. The lawyers asking to see them are being told that this is impossible.

In addition, none of them received the medical attention they needed, i.e. to get approval for medication to be taken into the prison.

War Resisters' International calls for letters of support to all four imprisoned conscientious objectors:
