convened
by Patricio Vejar, Chile

Patricio led us in an exercise used in his
country to help empower people to act despite their fears during the
dictatorship. He asked us to think of a time we felt very afraid. In silence we
were to express our fear through the position of our bodies. He then moved us
into pairs. We were asked to try to remove the other person's fear in silence,
while still feeling your own fear. We were then moved by the facilitator into
fours, and then into contact with the whole group.

Workshop given by Rosella Baronti, Chilean psychologist

Ten people attended this workshop, which analysed and reflected upon the effects of obligatory military service on both the individual and on the society in which they live.

Written reports are available from very few workshops. This list is on the website mainly to give a flavour of the range of workshops which took place. If we have been sent a copy of a report, it will be hotlinked from this page as well as from the main Triennial page.

Spain, the Ukraine and USA).

facilitated by Howard Clark and Vesna Terselic Report back and evaluation Report back 1. Our Agenda

This
was the largest theme group, beginning with perhaps 60 people. It was also the
most diverse group, with a substantial group from Bosnia and Croatia, and three
Chileans. The first session began late as all the theme groups had to be
formed and shown to their meeting rooms, and interpretation arrangements had to
be made.

facilitated
by Biljana Kasic (Croatia) and Maggie Helwig (Canada) report-back and evaluation Report back

There were about 35 people in our group. It was a somewhat diverse group -- a
lot of representation from the region, quite a few western Europeans (mostly
British and German); several US-ers.

Choosing
Peace Together will be War Resisters' International's 22nd Triennial Conference
- and its first one in the Balkans. Created in 1921, War Resisters'
International is a world-wide network of independent organisations, groups and
individuals who all accept the WRI declaration:

Convenors: Shelley Anderson and Ellen Elster

Goals

1. To further empower women nonviolent peace activists - especially those
working in conflict areas - by looking at women's different approaches to
peacemaking, the obstacles they face in their work, and the ways they are
overcoming these obstacles.

The
Caucasus is a region of the former Soviet Union which lies between the Black
Sea and the Caspian Sea. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, conflicts
in this area erupted, sometimes in very cruel forms. In some of these
conflicts, women have crossed the lines to find peaceful means of
reconciliation. Here, some of these women tell their stories.
