Two new books on militarisation
Two new publications have been published in Catalonia, by WRI members. WRI's affiliate Centre Delas 'Militarised Minds' examines how we are educated towards accepting war and violence. As the book says, those who benefit from the existence of military structures and wars know that they must devote resources to maintain a high level of militarisation in the minds of their fellow citizens in order to maintain their privileged position. Cécile Barbeito Thonon's 122 acciones fáciles (y difíciles) para la paz (122 easy [and difficult] actions for peace) suggests specific actions related to armed conflict and peace, military spending and armies, weaponry, exploitation of natural resources, the minimum conditions for peace, peace education or supporting pacifists activists, giving successful examples of many different campaigns.
