Since September, the WRI wiki has intermittently been the target of commercial spammers. Since mid-December, these attacks have been much more frequent, with four attacks, each affecting about 10 pages, in the period between 20-26 December alone.

These people (or maybe just one person ...) takes advantage of the wiki's anonymoous self-registration to create usernames which are then used to insert either visible or invisible links to commercial sites (hosting services and pharmaceuticals, so far).

The webmaster has been either reverting or deleting every vandalised post so far, and blocking the usernames responsible for a 365-day period. However, we strongly suspect that there are several other usernames which were created on this wiki specifically to create spam.

It may be helpful for "real" users to create a user page for themselves, explaining (as briefly or as fully as they want) who they are. You can still keep your identity anonymous but we would like to know what your interests are.

To create a user page, just click on the link on top of the screen (next to the "person" icon) which gives your username.
