The Right to Refuse to Kill

WRI has submitted the case of Mehmet Tarhan to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention. Mehmet was sentenced in early August to four years' imprisonment for his refusal to serve in the Turkish military.

WRI's joint statement (with the European Bureau for Conscientious Objectors and Amnesty International) on CO rights in Greece is now available in German as well as English.

You can buy copies of the Korean documentary People Who Don't Take Up Arms: The story of conscientious objector Oh Taeyang from the WRI webshop. This 60-minute film (Korean with English subtitles) is available in either DVD or VCD format at a price of £10 / €15 / US$20 including shipping.

Globalising Nonviolence

The 24th WRI Triennial will take place in Germany in summer 2006; an information page is now available in English, French, Spanish, and German.

Peace in North-East Asia

The WRI seminar "Peace in North-East Asia" met from 26-29 June at the Bongdo Centre outside Seoul.
