1 December - Prisoners for Peace Day This year's focus: conscientious objection in Finland

The special edition of WRI's The Broken Rifle, incorporating the annual Prisoners for Peace Honour Roll, is available online in English, German, French, and Spanish. Please contact the WRI Office if you require print copies, or feel free to download the material from our website, and make your own copies.

This years focus: conscientious objection in Finland.

It is only one more month to Prisoners for Peace Day. The special edition of WRI's The Broken Rifle, incorporating the annual Prisoners for Peace Honour Roll, will be available in English online after 4 November, and in print from 15 November on. The German, French, and Spanish editions will be available soon after.

European Day of Action October, 29th

On October 29th 2004 the draft for the EU constitution is intended for signing by the heads of state of the EU member states.

European Social Forum in London

War Resisters' International and many of its European affiliates are preparing for the European Social Forum, which will take place in London from 15-17 October 2004. You can find out more about WRI's presence at the ESF on WRI's website.

Tuzla, Bosnia and Hercegovina, 26-30 November 2002

Quaker Peace and Social Witness (QPSW) organised a seminar in Tuzla on the subject of truth and reconciliation and dealing with the past. 23 representatives of NGOs from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro participated in the event.

The participants were people who had worked with or were known to QPSW in the past and who had carried out invaluable work in the areas of peace-building and non-violence.

Peace, Development, Equity and Integration in the Americas -- 7-10 October, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Gathering Visions, Gathering Strength -- 4-6 April, Leeds, Britain

A weekend gathering to explore nonviolent action in Britain across movements and across generations will be held at Leeds University. Workshops will cover the past, present and future of nonviolent action, discusion topics including: developing nonviolent practice, relations with to the police and the legal system, building and sustaining movements. Participants will come from a variety of movements, including peace, animal rights, environmental and human rights campaigns.

Speaking tour with Saswati Roy, from SWADHINA (India) - June-July

The WRI FöGA working group, which had already sponsored Saswati's participation in the 1994 Triennial in Brazil, is now planning a speaking tour for Saswati in Germany from mid-June to mid-July. These dates were chosen to allow her to take part in the next WRI Coundl meeting, in Liege. Saswati has already been invited by several groups to speak on the position of women in India and grassroots relationships between development, environment and women's issues.
