On November 23-24, in Washington DC, US, there will be a global gathering entitled "Drones Around the Globe: Proliferation and Resistance.” It is sponsored by CODEPINK, the Institute for Policy Studies and The Nation magazine.

The organizers are bringing together drone survivors and families of victims from Pakistan and Yemen, human rights advocates, lawyers, authors, social media experts, technology experts, artists and musicians and grassroots activists. This summit’s objectives are to: 1) learn from experts about the latest developments in both lethal and surveillance drones around the globe; 2) honor the voices and stories of those directly impacted on the ground and 3) recognize and appreciate actions of creative nonviolent resistance 4) form a Global Drones Network for coordinating the international anti-drone movement and 5) providing a civil society component to the multilateral work underway to outlaw drones through UN and other international institutions.

Saturday, November 23rd’s program will include: victim testimonies and stories from the ground; the Obama administration’s policies: rhetoric vs. reality; drone operators: commanding the machines; the changing technology and science of drone warfare; the use of domestic surveillance drones; compensation for victims; UN and other international efforts at regulation. Additionally, we will incorporate artistic, literary and musical perspectives in workshops throughout the day and will host a cultural evening entitled Creative Resistance to Drone Warfare.

Sunday, November 24 will be a strategy session to look at how to better coordinate the work and to lay the foundation for a Global Drones Network.

We encourage your organization to become an endorser. This means you would help with outreach, you will be invited to send a representative to the Sunday strategy session, and you will be listed on the materials. Please let us know by August 1, 2013 if you would like to be an endorser. If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact Noor Mir at noor@codepink.org.
