Dear Friends,
The SOA Watch National office and Council are pleased to announce exciting news: SOA Watch is opening a permanent office in Latin America. And we need YOUR help!
Many of you have followed with intense interest the trips that Father Roy Bourgeois and Lisa Sullivan, coordinator of the Latin America Project, have made to various Latin American countries since 2006. Accompanied by in-country human rights activists and leaders of civil society, Lisa and Fr. Roy have traveled to 15 countries to meet with Defense Ministers and Presidents, community organizers, and human rights organizations, to persuade the governments of these countries to no longer send students to be trained at the SOA/WHINSEC
Thanks to these collaborative efforts, five countries -- Argentina, Uruguay, Bolivia, Costa Rica, and Venezuela -- have made public announcements that they will no longer send students to the SOA/WHINSEC, and two countries, Nicaragua and Ecuador, are in the process of considering this possibility. Your support for the Latin America Project will make future successes a reality!
To meet projected needs, including the financing of staff, office space, and delegations to several countries annually, we project a budget of $55,000. Can you help us close the SOA/ WHINSEC by supporting the Latin America Project?
For several years, Lisa has been working from internet cafes, using her own resources to arrange high-level visits with the Presidents and Defense Ministers of multiple nations and organize delegations for movement activists. Now, with the institutionalization of the Latin America Project within the organization of SOA Watch as a long-term strategy to close the SOA/ WHINSEC, Lisa will increase her workload from part-time to full-time. Your donation can help make the struggle to close the SOA/ WHINSEC a successful, North/South endeavor.
To make our Latin America Project a reality, we will need your generous support as an _expression_ of solidarity with our sisters and brothers of Latin America, giving generously and from the heart. We welcome any support you might be able to offer!
There are three suggested ways in which you can contribute to the SOAW Latin America Project:
1] Call the SOA Watch National Office and we can process your credit card over the phone. Be sure to let us know your donation is for the SOAW Latin America Project!
***Become a regular monthly supporter and sustainer of the Latin America Project by contacting the SOA Watch National Office and letting us know the amount you would like to donate each month using your credit card.***
2] Donate online with PayPal, using your credit card or checking account
3] Mail your donation to:

Donations of $100 or more are tax deductible and checks for $100 or more should be made out to our fiscal sponsor, the A.J. Muste Institute. Please include SOAW Latin America Project in the memo line.
Your generosity will ensure that Presidents and Defense Ministers of countries throughout Latin America hear directly from SOA Watch and you will make closing the SOA/ WHINSEC a reality.
Sincerely and Gratefully,
Father Roy, Lisa Sullivan, SOA Watch National Staff and Grassroots Council, and the Latin America Project Working Group

On the Line is an inside look at the people behind one of the largest nonviolent movements in America today: the movement to close the School of the Americas/WHINSEC.
