ISRAEL: Conscientious objector Yair Khilou again sentenced to 28 days imprisonment

Conscientious objector Yair Khilou reported to the Bakum today, on summons by the unsuitability committee, and although it is unclear whether or not he actually saw the committee, he has been sentenced to his third 28-day incarceration period. Yair Khilou was among the initiators and formulators of the open letter of high school students to Prime Minister Ariel Sharon at the beginning of September last year, signed by 62 Israeli youths who announced their refusal to cooperate with the Israeli occupation in Palestine. This is the third time Yair Khilou is imprisoned for his beliefs. He spent 28 days in prison from 23 December to 17 January 2002, and from 28 January to 22 February. As Yair Khilou is likely to refuse to wear uniform in prison, he might be imprisoned in the isolation ward of Military Prison No 4. He is also likely to be transferred to Military Prison No. 6 soon.
