Anti-war protesters arrested at Alliant Techsystems in Anoka, USA
Police arrested eight adults and one juvenile on the 2 of July after they chained themselves together and blocked an entrance at Alliant Techsystems in Anoka, the action was done by a new group in the US against war profiteering called "Project to Stop the War Industry".
Twin Cities-based Alliant Techsystems, also known as ATK, is an aerospace and defence company with 50 facilities across the country, according to its Web site. The Anoka facility is at 900 Ehlen Drive.
Police booked the nine protesters in the Anoka County Jail on suspicion of unlawful assembly, trespassing and disorderly conduct, said Anoka County sheriff's Capt. James Stuart.
The adults posted bail but the juvenile remained in custody Wednesday afternoon, said Michael Galvin, a media liaison for the group.
This is the first protest at the Anoka facility, although anti-war groups have demonstrated at Alliant Techsystems' headquarters on several occasions.
Dozens of people from various anti-war groups formed Project to Stop the War Industry to protest at the Anoka facility. They want to draw attention to the war industry.
"We were just trying to expose ATK in the community to say that we're not OK with war profiteers in our community," one of the activist said.
