Editorial
Welcome to the first issue of 2010. Here at the WRI office we have been busy these first two months of 2010. During the last two weeks of January, WRI held its International Conference in Ahmedabad, India. In this issue we report on some of the sessions which were related to the topic of war profiteering. The conference was an important opportunity for campaigners and researchers on the issue of war profiteers to meet and make connection beyond particular regions and areas of work.
One suggestion that came out was the need to get this newsletter out to more people. It was suggested that people who already receive this newsletter should send emails to their contacts inviting them to subscribe - the link to use for new subscribers is:

We will also try to post the newsletter on other websites, such as Indymedia. If you can help us with this, that would be more than welcomed.
In this issue you will see a report on the work of the group "Weapon Zero Team" in South Korea. This group were motivated to work on war profiteering after some of them attended WRI's 2006 International Conference in Germany. Some of them were also present in Ahmedabad and attended the sessions on war profiteering. This is a clear example how these gatherings can make important connections and be an inspiration for action.
On 15 February a big blockade took place of the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) at Aldermaston, Britain, to protest against nuclear weapons. WRI helped co-organise an international presence which included activists from several European countries, including Belgium, Finland, Germany, Sweden, and Spain. Nuclear weapons remain a crucial industry for the bigger arms producers. In this link (http://wri-irg.org/node/9661) you can see a list of the producers of nuclear weapons for NATO.
I would like to congratulate the campaign in Northern Ireland for their success in getting Raytheon to leave Derry. As they say, now it is important to follow up and check where Raytheon set up next!
Last but not least would like to thank the Ceasefire Campaign for their contribution in this newsletter and Wendela de Vries who helped by sharing useful information.
