Unbelievable but true: Howard will be leaving the WRI staff next September after many years in the office -- we won't tell you how many years, as it might hurt his feelings! Having recently been awarded a fellowship by the Einstein Institute in the US, he will be doing research on the nonviolent movement in Kosov@. In the meanwhile we are looking for a new staff person to take on programme and finance work in the London office. You have already received our job advert in a separate mailing last month. The deadline is nearing, but there are still a few days to contact us and return an application. Please help us find the right person for the job by posting, faxing, emailing, and distributing this advert as widely as possible.

PROGRAMME AND FINANCE WORKER
(Full-time position)

The Programme and Finance Worker will promote the development of WRI through a variety of means, including organising events, liaising with WRI bodies and affiliates, producing a newsletter, and undertaking specific projects. S/He will share fund-raising and finance work with the other member of staff.

In addition to a commitment to nonviolence, the candidate must have plenty of peace movement experience, preferably as an organiser, and an interest in anti-militarism.

As a member of a small team, s/he will be expected to work collectively, but also to be self-reliant and take initiatives. Some experience of fund-raising and finance work is preferable.

Fluency in English is essential and the candidate should have or will need to gain a working knowledge of at least one other language. Word-processing, desktop publishing and database management skills are desirable. Training will be provided if necessary.

This will be a full-time, permanent appointment, subject to a six-month probationary period. The applicant should be legally entitled to work in Britain -- it is often hard for non-EC citizens to obtain permission to work in Britain.

Starting salary: £15,434 per annum (based on a 35-hour week). Holiday entitlement is 25 days per year, plus statutory holidays.

Deadline for application: 23 April 1997.
Interviews will take place either on 17 or 24 May 1997
Starting date: preferably 1 September 1997.

Application form available from: WRI, 5 Caledonian Road, London N1 9DX, Britain (tel +44 171 278 4040; fax: +44 171 278 0444; email: warresisters@gn.apc.org).
