As a reaction to the attacks on Gaza, December and January saw a number of actions against war profiteers doing businesses with Israel, in this issue we present some of them. Such actions enable us to respond locally to crimes being committed elsewhere, as with the case of Gaza. For example the action from the dock workers in Durban, South Africa, is a clear example that makes you wonder how much could we achieve if there was better cooperation between peoples, organisations, and movements around the world.

We have said many times that the military is globalised. For the attack to take place in Gaza, they needed dock workers to unload their equipment in Durban or Athens, they needed workers for Raytheon in Derry, they needed the airports in Belgium and the Netherlands to transport the weapons to Israel, and many more links in the large chain that makes military intervention possible. If we can act locally to disrupt part of this chain, perhaps we will not stop the attacks, but maybe - just maybe - we can slow it down. More importantly we can show how what is happening near us is linked to horrors inflicted on people far away and so contribute to the whole process of building up pressure against military interventions, demonstrating that we as citizens will not just sit down letting these crimes continue to take place.
