Dear Mr Shaul Mofaz, Minister of Defence

I am very concerned about the imprisonment of conscientious objector G. S..
On 26 September, G. S., a signatory of the 'Combatants' Letter' of 'Courage to Refuse', was sentenced to a prison term of 28 days for refusing to perform reserve duty in the Occupied Territories. Only one day before, the authorities seemed willing to post him within Israel's border pre-1967.
Conscientious objection is recognised as a human right, derived from Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, of which Israel is a signatory. The United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention ruled in November 2003, that repeated imprisonment of conscientious objectors is arbitrary (Opinion 24/2003).
I therefore call on you to stop this practice, and to stop the imprisonment of Eyal Nahum, which already now is in breach of international legal standards.
I therefore urge you to immediately release all imprisoned conscientious objectors. I urge you to respect human rights.
