Dear Mr Shaul Mofaz, Minister of Defence

I am very concerned about the imprisonment of conscientious objectors in Israel.
I learned today about the imminent sentencing of conscientious objector Jonathan Ben-Artzi. Jonathan Ben-Artzi was already sentenced seven times by his commanding officer, and spent altogether 18 month in detention, until he was finally discharged from the Israeli Army. The United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention ruled in November 2003, that his repeated imprisonment was arbitrary (Opinion 24/2003).
I therefore call on you to stop this practice, which is in breach of international legal standards, and to use your influence in order for Jonathan Ben-Artzi not to be imprisoned again.
I therefore urge you to immediately release all imprisoned conscientious objectors. I urge you to respect human rights.
